I’m not sure the second person was needed, although I think I could make an argument for it given the way the story ends, but it annoyed me throughout. On the other hand, that’s the only thing that annoyed me. This is a nice classic TwilightZone-ish kind of story about a hot topic of the moment—cultural appropriation—but not one that takes the easy route. It plays with SF tropes (i.e., virtual reality) and yet, at the heart, it’s a fantasy story about people living out fantasies against harsh realities. It’s also a bit of a horror story, about doppelgangers and losing control of your life. There’s a lot going on here, and that’s great. Recommended.
