King Deadpool Vol. 1: Hail to the King by Kelly Thompson

3.0

Not my favorite Kelly Thompson joint, but the last issue saved it. Not that I expect dense political intrigue from my Marvel comics, but I feel like Staten Island being taken over by monsters would have more effects. At least make a Wu Tang joke, for crying out loud.

The Kraven arc really didn’t do it for me. It felt like a lot of smashing action figures at each other, which is fine if you do wild things. But the fighting didn’t seem that innovative. I did really enjoy the nuance of the last story, trying to work out how to actually take care of these monsters. Deadpool is a little too #random for me a lot of the time, but it does make his moments of pathos work that much better.
