fantastic, funny but not necessarily satire
Jo is all too familiar, but I appreciate that she is well-rounded, and Damani so badly wants to believe the best of her.
I liked that protest and activism was a part of the fabric of the city and the story. I enjoyed Damani's relationship with her friends, and that they stick by her even when the event happens. (If you know, you know)
Damani is a great character. You root for her, you cringe when she makes potentially dangerous - though justified - decisions.
Every character was unique and specific, even the ones that we only see briefly.
The pace of the book really ramped up throughout and kept me hooked.
I can't decide whether I found the ending satisfying or not. I think not, and I think that is probably on purpose.
Damani's relationship with her mother and both of their grief is so palpable, you really feel it.
