I loved this book a lot more than I thought I would. I was unsure about delving back into the vampire world (it's hard to shake my millennial thoughts away from Twilight) and quickly realised this book is slower-paced than I typically enjoy (glad I had this in audio, as I may have struggled with the pacing with a physical copy). But I loved it in the same way I love Silvia Moreno-Garcia and The Seven Wives of Evelyn Hugo.
The characters are each strong and fierce in their own ways, making their own way across eras. The gothic atmosphere permeates through each woman's story making the slower pace understandable in tangent. In saying that, this could have been a five star had the pacing been just a touch quicker - the speed up at the end is when I was truly hooked. Overall though, Schwab's writing style is perfect for the type of story this is.
