the sudden racism sucked out all enjoyment i could have had from reading it, made for a tense and grating read as i braced for impact. luckily it's pretty much a one-off thing, but it was already soured. story kinda sucks. really good worldbuilding is its only redeeming quality and that's not enough to salvage the book.
