Treasure & Dirt by Chris Hammer
3.0
Chris Hammer writes a decent Australian noir thriller / mystery. This was an engaging and entertaining read for a rainy day. There were moments though in the narrative denouement that I did have to chuckle with incredulity in the final stages of this book. Whilst these are a fun read and the narrative Is well paced, I find Hammer’s stereotypes of rural people a little disingenuous and uncharitable. Having spent many years in outback towns in NSW … Hammer doesn’t capture the nuanced spirit of the people of the bush. He captures a stereotype that only arises in people who really haven’t “crossed the great divide”.
