City of the Plague God
by Sarwat Chadda
I'm tempted to give this a slightly lower rating, but trying to recognize that if I were the intended audience for this book, I'd likely go for the higher rating.
This was my first true introduction to Mesopotamian mythology (though it seems like something I should have learned about in 6th grade). I really enjoyed learning a bit about Iraqi culture and seeing the portrayal of a refugee family like this. Listening gave me a distinct PJO feel, a combination of the writing and the narrator, which I loved. It was a compelling story and pleasantly long. I didn't feel like Chadda cut any corners or left too many loose ends - it was a satisfying conclusion. Though, I'd love to read more if they continue with the story.
