The Striker
by Ana Huang
I just finished The Striker by Ana Huang, and wow—I’m still thinking about it. What made me pick this book up in the first place was actually really personal. I played soccer for six years when I was younger, and for five of those years, I was the only girl on the team. So when I saw a romance centered around a professional soccer player and a fierce, ambitious female lead, I knew I had to read it.
From the very first chapter, I was hooked. Ana Huang does such a great job blending heat, humor, and emotional depth. Winter is such a force—confident, unapologetic, and so easy to root for. And Xavier? Brooding, guarded, emotionally complex… basically my weakness.
Their chemistry crackled on every page. But beyond the romance, what really hit me was the vulnerability and growth both characters had to go through. I related so much to Winter’s fight to be taken seriously in a male-dominated space—it reminded me of how I used to feel walking onto the field with all those boys.
This book made me laugh, swoon, and even tear up a little. It brought back so many memories while also giving me the kind of love story that just feels good. If you love strong women, emotional depth, and steamy sports romance, The Striker won’t let you down.
