Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

5.0

I LOVED this book! Easily a 5-star read. Tracy Deonn really out-did herself, especially for a debut! This book was full of well developed characters, diversity, and an interesting, engaging plot.

As someone who does not often read fantasy, I found this easy to follow. Of course, it was urban fantasy, so there were no whole new worlds or maps to confuse me. Additionally, I did not have much knowledge about Arthurian myths, so even though there was a lot of data dumping, I did not mind because I needed it.

The characters were also well developed in this book. Bree did a lot of developing throughout the book as she dealt with her trauma, learned about her family history, and started learning about her magic. I really liked that the book wasn't solely about her learning to use her magic, but instead about her learning the history of it and then sprinkling the learning how to use it in there.

The romance, thankfully mostly subplot, was great in this book. I was hoping that Deonn wouldn't focus on the romance, and happy that that was the case. I found myself rooting for Bree to forget about Nick and give in to Sel because who doesn't love a dark-haired, broken bad boy.

I was happy to see the representation in the book! There were multiple POCs, sexualities, and a non-binary character.
