The story was enjoyable and lighthearted, but it lacked any true depth. I thought the setting of the book was interesting, but the magical elements were lacking. For a book about witches that live in a witch-college town, they surprisingly knew very little about magic. It was the least compelling aspect of this book.
Most of the characters were charming, but I disliked the sister, Gwyn. She did not experience any character growth and did not contribute anything meaningful to the story. In addition, I did not like how her romance subplot was resolved.
Finally, the resolution was a bit abrupt. The author raised the stakes very high in the last few chapters, but then resolved the issues quickly. I would have liked to have seen more of the characters grappling emotionally with the consequences of the hex.
