The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

4.0

The Poet X's defying rate of courageous four stars portrays my strong recommendation for the novel. The story presents itself as a form of women empowerment. Interestingly enough, its main takeaways direct to bravery, belief, and self-acceptance. This book should be read by individuals who are being repressed of their ability to decide, those who are under the impression of being an extension of another life instead of living their own.

The strengths of the novel are its exceptional and fascinating writing technique - the design and spacing contributes to its overall brilliance, engaging usage of setting to invoke needed emotions, impressive employment of relevant societal issues to create true to life conflicts resonating with the current generation, varied and unique characterization that defies our perception of genders. The only weakness I found concerns the ending due to the inadequate maximization of X's grand poem.
