Again I have mixed feelings. I just don't like novels that are interior monologues. What is supposed to be interior conflict just comes across as rationalization. And as self pity. Meanwhile I appreciated the look at the difficulties of living in a state with miscegenation laws, the effort to survive and make a way in spite of them. And the cleverness of
Spoileran apparent happy ending that, to one who has read the earlier books that occurred later knows did not end happily ever after.
