This book gets intense pretty quick. I went from not liking Libby to having distant respect for her. But I just can’t fathom how
Ben watching Diondra strangle Michelle
is something that Libby seems to have accepted. All the characters are written to be disappointing humans and deceptive, which feels largely accurate for a town with so many issues. Also, I am so surprised
Crystal wasn’t born with fetal alcohol syndrome or some kind of major birth defect.
