The language and story-telling strategy of this book gave me a kind of nostalgia that does not belong to me. I did not grow up in an environment like the one in this book. But, memories of childhood superstition and the magic of a neighborhood, in contrast with the darkness of secrets withheld by adults— I really felt that crossover of a coming of age story with Jake’s character. Great summer read full of wanderings and little responsibility. Well-planned and executed story.
