The Pet Boutique by Suzie Carr

4.0

The Pet Boutique is my fourth Suzie Carr novel. She produces solid romances that are usually 4 or 5 star material.

There will be a large part of the book being taken up with dog antics. White boxer Cashmere plays a key role as catalist between Lexie Tanner and Taylor Henshaw. The stage for most of the story is The Pet Boutique, a fixer-upper where both Lexie and Taylor get to spend a lot of time together and their mutual attraction grows.

It’s a slow burn romance because both ladies come with steamer trunk of bagage that needs to be worked through (read lots of inner musings). Lexie is in a dead-end relationship with a workaholic and Taylor is rigid with grief and guilt from the past. Undertaking this massive DIY project is just what the doctor ordered.

Like usual there is a colorful cast of extras to balance it out, all with their own quirks. And also, like usual, there is one intimate scene of the flowery variety (le sigh) but I know Carr doesn’t do other kinds and that’s okay really. All in all it’s a sweet, nicely paced romance.

f/f

Themes: grief, writer’s block, keeping a secret, dead-end relationship, the Merkel clan, therapy by way of DIY, being true to yourself, “The Sun is shining on this.”
