The Beautiful Mystery by Louise Penny

4.0

This book is different from the past Inspector Gamache mysteries. It does not include one moment, not one character, from Three Pines. In the early books I felt like the village of Three Pines was as much the main character as the Inspector! Nevertheless, only so many people should die in such a small village, so I am not surprised that where Penny has been moving the stories more and more away, she has finally made the complete break setting this story almost 100% inside a monastery deep in the isolated woods of Quebec. If you are not already a huge fan of Penny and Gamache this could be tedious to read, but if you love her writing and this character, you will be satisfied with a few days joining them in this austere environment.
