Mira's Last Dance by Lois McMaster Bujold

5.0

I had no idea where this one was heading. It became so funny I laughed out loud. I am a sucker for men in drag.

It picks up with Pen, Nikys and Adelis on the run from the soldiers in the mountains. Pen is weakened due to the attack on his heart by the other sorcerer and Nikys is caring for him as they go from country home to home. Adelis was a prick for attempting to leave Pen behind but if he hadn't then they wouldn't know they were being so closely followed. Adelis is still a prick even if we see him have a moment after they cross the border.

They limp into a town expecting to help themselves to the temple offerings but are thwarted. Next comes a genius plan of Pen masquerading as Mira (channeling the spirit of Mira of course) and I can't believe how far this "masquerade" went. Its all done behind the scenes but some how Pen/Mira satisfied General Chadro SO WELL that he gave her a purse with gold. Enough to pay for the next leg of the trip to the border.

Nikys face! She was furious and this really sets their relationship back a bit. I would be squicked out as well, I admit. And Chadro at the border, kissing Pen/Mira goodbye and them watching- priceless!

I don't get my HEA for Pen and Nikys yet so keep reading!
