I have to admit, this book was a little harder for me to get through. I think it was both the unique way it is written (in letter format), and the turmoil of being torn between two young loves. It's a very human novel and it explores innocent emotions and feelings that kids go through. There is an air of coming-of-age in characters like Alvina. Stargirl is still a character to love and learn with.
Overall I think it is a great book. Safe for most age groups. Touches on romance, financial hardships, different family dynamics, minor violence, and contains a scene with a frightening house fire. None of these are severe however.
