Did you hear about the weird kid who transferred into 2-B? He apologizes all the time. Like he has guilt issues? The other day, he was standing on the sidewalk, apologizing to everybody who walked by. Is he nuts or something?
Adding to my burgeoning Junji Ito collection, this was the aforementioned book which wasn't included in the Forbidden Planet 3 for 2 offer, leading to me finding the outstanding Night of the Living Cat.
I am a real fan of Ito's work and hold it to a higher standard due to the previous books I've read. This anthology of linked stories is very good, but felt somewhat forced in places. I wondered it is was perhaps an early piece of work, but it is actually rather recent, in terms of publishing order.
It follows a pair of mysterious siblings, one who forever apologies and one who brings fear to the locals wherever they live. However, there is more to the pair than it seems and their occult activities will cause those they target to be damned to dissolve.
Given the high bar set by other works, this gets a solid 4 stars.
