Your One & Only by Adrianne Finlay
4.0

Your One and Only is an unusual science-fiction story, asking us to consider what it means to be human.
In this world humans have died out. Now, there are only clones of the original nine scientists who had characteristics deemed worthy of replicating. Over time the act of cloning has weakened the DNA and they need something to help them adapt.
This is where Jack comes in. Jack is human, with some of the weaknesses felt to be unneeded. However, there is something about him - humanity his ‘father’ calls it - that prompts some of the clones to question the actions being taken.
During the course of the story we learn a little of what brought about such actions, the impact these advances have had on society and a challenge of all that is believed.
While it was an intriguing idea, there were moments where I felt I wanted to know more than we were given and the ending - sadly - left too many questions for me. It feels like there’s more to come.
