The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler

This book was very much a trust the process type of book for me. The author doesn't really introduce the characters, and you're just plunked down into the story. It is sci-fi, and so I had to get used to the lingo and initialisms/acronyms. The author also doesn't explain what those things are, so I had to figure it out along the way and through context. Once I got into the story, I really enjoyed it. I loved the different POVs, especially Eiko. I loved the conversation around what consciousness is through the lens of humans, the octopuses on the island, and the AI components of the story. There really wasn't much of an ending either. I mean, there was in the sense that something happens, but not in the sense that you get answers about the octopuses or the future of AI in regards to DIANIMA and the different situations in the book. I would have loved a little bit more development there.
