Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

I feel kind of back and forth about this book. It was quick to get through and it had an interesting premise. Honestly, horror stories aren't my usual genre, but I saw a lot of buzz about this book and decided to check it out.

I think was sort of confused me was that the book seemed to be written in a very YA way, but there was a lot of swearing and gore. Don't get me wrong, I didn't mind these things, I curse like no one's business and it's nice to see other (even fictional) people do it too. If I was hunting ghosts, I sure as hell would be dropping the F bomb all the time. It just felt like an odd juxtaposition if you know what I mean.

As for the characters, they were fine. I'm glad I didn't have to spend countless hours hearing about interactions that weren't really important. I appreciated that this book got right into the meat of the story and let us figure out the characters from there. It made people like Cas and Carmel (who were ridiculous in the beginning) much more well rounded and likeable.

All in all, I do like a book that ends with a good cliffhanger. Not every story should end with everything working out. Where's the fun in that?
