Pet Sematary by Stephen King

I might change or expand on this review later but Pet Semetary is good, just not as good as I thought it would be. I already knew the vaguest beats of the story because of various movie trailers over the years but not enough to ruin it for me.

Having said that, the actual Pet Semetary isn't the driving force of the story, which was disappointing, and it's mostly character interactions for the first half of the book. The actual tension and horror only comes towards the very end. I just kept waiting and waiting, then bam it's done and over. Pacing is just... not great.
I think I'll have to sit on it and think about what it was supposed to mean. Then watch both movies and see if the story is paced better.

I did enjoy the family issues and history but I found they didn't help me understand Louis's motivation in the end. He just.. does things that I feel should have been explained by the extensive family dynamic sections instead (spoiler) it may have been a sort of demon control? Plus there's a wendigo maybe? Which somehow is involved with the reanimation.....? Maybe? So what was the point with all the history, it could have happened to any family with any dynamic!

Argh! I might just not be smart enough.
