I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman by Nora Ephron

funny lighthearted reflective fast-paced

5.0

After some heavy reads to start the year this was an incredible delight! My first foray into Nora Ephron outside of her films, and idk why I waited so long - it's like all my favorite conversations from When Harry Met Sally rolled into one collection. Sharp, candid, and just SO funny in its relatability (hi, I also suck at purses) and turns of phrase. Given these essays were published together in 2006, it is not without oudated thinking (or rather, ideas of beauty and life that align more with what I'd hear my mom's generation say), but Ephron has a knack for a level of sarcasm that can poke fun at  these thoughts while keeping honest. Would a levelheaded reviewer rate this less than 5 stars as a result? Yeah maybe, but reflecting on giggles of recognition and deepened appreciation for her writing, this is a 5 stars for experience alone. Listening to Ephron herself narrate is a MUST. I'm happy to know I have more of her writing to work through when I need to feel like I'm watching the best of my favorite rom-com.
