The Art of Seduction by Robert Greene
2.0
It’s kind of embarrassing to say I’ve read this… BUT one of the most confident people I’ve ever met recommended this to me so I thought ok why not, plus I have heard about this on booktok. Nobody prepared me for what lay inside. The first part is kind of interesting, it just talks about lover archetypes, although it’s extremely vague at times and just kind of throws you out into this sea of examples on how to cultivate your “look”. For women he gives “sexy” examples such as Marilyn Monroe, like who wouldn’t want to look like her? But I also want to be a strong powerful woman, and Monroe was not during her lifetime due to the movie industry oversexualizing the hell out of her. She was also a reader and extremely smart but nobody ever knows that, including Greene. I guess I should not have gone into this with high hopes but this author is literally the most misogynistic guy I have EVER read anything from. He also keeps using JFK as an example (for the men of course) like we get it you have a huge boner for him… but let’s stay on track here.
The second part is even worse. I thought it would be like this is how you flirt with people. No. It is this is how to manipulative people with weird tactics such as infantilizing yourself and pretending you are a child because the oedipus complex is actually totally a thing and not an excuse to sexualize children. Um…. Oh! Anybody giving this book 5 stars is a walking red flag. Just for the record, if kids really did have sexual feelings toward their parents, then children that get molested/raped by a parental figure would not have trauma. But I don’t think Greene would realize that because he is DEFINITELY a sociopath.
