Great story. A little slow in the middle and vety challenging emotionally. It's a character study on the main character and her ego and ambition. Loved it but it was hard to read at times. predictable but not necessarily in a bad way. Honestly there is no other way this book could've ended. Loses half a point for dragging in the middle to early end. At some point I was like "we get it sciona is ignorant" but Wang takes her time peeling away at sciona's character so the ending feels earned. Don't know if I support the romance but I wouldn't say that's a flaw of the book. I'm okay with disagreeing with character choices. The book overall isn't subtle but it balances well with character development. It was very frustrating at points and triggering for me as a Black American reader in many ways, but overall worth it and not to be mean but it redeemed my hope in revolutionary narratives after I read Babel and left kind of disappointed
