I really wanted to like this book, but it felt so disjointed at times that I couldn't. It would be like "this bad thimg happened" then suddenly it's 2 months later and another bad thing happens. I cheered for Frankie the whole way, which was the story's redeeming quality.
Frankie's decisions and the fallout from those are introduced so coldly that I couldn't care as much as I wanted to. The book would introduce and idea and seemingly abandon it so quickly. I kept waiting for Frankie and friends to be in combat, fired upon on a beach day, and this never happened even with all the foreshadowing. At times the book seemed like an emotionally detached list of "Things That Happened."
