The Bonehunters by Steven Erikson

4.0

“And so we weep for the fallen. We weep for those yet to fall, and in war the screams are loud and harsh and in peace the wail is so drawn-out we tell ourselves we hear nothing."

It was truly brilliant. Finally, we have the convergence of all plotlines and characters from previous five books into one. The bigger picture arose. In this installment, a direct war between the gods was started, which will lead to unimaginable impact in the lifes of mortal, immortal and the world itself. "Whether we worship or not, it is mortal blood that will soak the earth."
The theme discussed a lot in this book was the relationship between worshippers and their respective gods. "Show me a god that does not demand mortal suffering. Show me a god that celebrates diversity, a celebration that embraces even non-believers and is not threatened by them. Show me a god who understands the meaning of peace. In life, not in death."
The pace was almost perfect, though it sometimes dragging. We got lots of splendid scenes. Not to mention, for me, anything with Ganoes Paran, Karsa Olong or Cotillion in it was awesome. Throw in Greyfrog, and it just made my day. Special thanks to the never ending amusement from the soldiers in the Fourteenth Army. I will have to say, the unexpected betrayal in the end almost ruin it for me, but then the resolution was great, so what a huge relief. On to the next!

“The most deadly seducers are the ones encouraging conformity. If you can only feel safe when everybody else feels, thinks and looks the same as you, then you're a damned coward...not to mention a vicious tyrant in the making.”
