smacm 's review for:
Woman Hating
by Andrea Dworkin
Very mixed feelings on this, first half is excellent with its clear sighted criticism, no complaints there. The chapter on witch trials, is marred by an ahistorical and incoherent representation, with confessions extracted by the inquisition under torture being used uncritically as evidence of a millions strong pagan religion and the existence of fairies which seems to be based upon neopagan fancy, which (at best) severely undermines Dworkins argument in this chapter. Final chapters have raised some concerns which I need to mull over more, though I know Dworkin later criticised/recanted the views expressed here. Definitely worth reading, will be reading more.
