Relatively interesting worldbuilding for a pretty straightforward fantasy setting, but the plot is both too messy and too intricate to really grab me. I was fond of a few characters, especially Bashasa, but the majority of the cast you follow is so underdeveloped it leads to the whole read being a slog. Plot threads are resolved in surprising anticlimaxes, leading to a book that feels like it's waiting for a sequel but not doing much on its own.
