I really really liked it. Amazing start to a series.

The first chapter alone had me picking my jaw up the floor. Then it turned out the thing that had provoked that had been a ruse, but it only made it so much better.

I’ll admit the rest of the plot was somewhat predictable, but no less enjoyable anyway.

The characters had personality and depth, and though Lara could’ve saved everyone and herself a lot of trouble if she hadn’t been a coward about the letter, her actions felt logical and in accordance to her background.

The romantic relationship could be seen coming from a mile away, but still managed to burn slowly enough to be believable.

The amount of spice was just right and the interactions between all characters were pretty enjoyable.

But the most fascinating thing about it all was the politics and the geographical and socioeconomic nuances between all kingdoms, specially the functionality of the bridge and what protecting it meant for Ithicana. Aren said it well when he talked about the bridge being as much a curse as it is a blessing.

The secrets of the bridge, the military ingenuity that comes into play when protecting the islands and the general strategy that ensures the survival of the country and its people -if not their true thriving and living, and the whole emotional impotence that comes with that difference- was truly amazingly developed.

I can't wait to read the next one, I'm biting my nails with stress over here. Seriously, things are shit!
Lara has much to fix and I need to know what will happen with her and Aren, or what's left of them and their relationship.
