I read this book with the imagery from the movie, from 2008, in my mind. Against the consensus, I found the movie incrediy powerful and moving, and when I saw the book in a sale at my local library: I decided I needed to read it.

I did not know what that journey was going to entail, as I opened the pages to find what could best be described as a wall of text. No dialogue tags, very few paragraph breaks, and no proper names. I didn't think I was going to be able to finish the book because it just seemed so resistant to getting into tune with it.

I'm glad I persevered -- much like the theme of the book. I don't know if I found it so life-altering or understanding of its receiving a Nobel Prize, but it's definitely a transcendental experience.
