The Elite Kings Boxset Vol. II by Amo Jones

3.0

This series was very interesting to read. And I don’t even know if I can adequately review the books because part of me wanted to DNF multiple times throughout the series. And then the other part of me couldn’t stop reading because I wanted to know what the hell was going on and just to get to the bottom of all of the twists. I think the issues that I had with the books was there were a lot of holes. Not necessarily in the plot but in the characters. And I wanted to roll my eyes really bad. For example, When Tillie finally comes out to Madison that she was abused at home, she didn’t have a reaction other than wanting to go eat. And when Madison‘s life was in danger and they fled to a secret cabin, they just decided to randomly go paint balling? I just found the series to have really random moments that didn’t go with anything. It was almost as if I was reading two different series. I had a really hard time with the lack of emotions. There is a loss of a child and instead of having, to me normal reactions to losing a child in a horrible way, the parents acted like they lost their pet goldfish and just continued to party and have random and spontaneous sex. There was more detail in outfits that the characters were wearing instead of the horrific events of a baby that died. (And as a mother who has gone through fertility issues, this really really upset me reading.)
There were books that I liked more than the others. I am not necessarily a fan of any of the characters. No one really seemed redeemable or likable in my opinion. The entire series was just really mediocre but there’s something about Amo Jones writing that makes me keep coming back for more. I absolutely loved her Crowned duet and LOVE the Midnight Mayhem series.
If I had to rate the series as a whole, I keep going back-and-forth with my rating. It would probably be a three out of five because the entire series kept me somewhat engaged where I was able to read the first five books in about 48 hours. I own all her books and paper back because she has some of the most beautiful covers LOL but this isn’t a series I would probably reread.
