This was really disappointing. The othering of the trans FMC throughout the entire book was incredibly off putting. Transphobia is real and a life threatening issue- truly horrifying that the author swept it under the rug at the end of the book.
It was also frustrating that the author decided that the Native American representation came with a massive serving of transphobia and homophobia. That was an odd choice given that those are not things of indigenous communities, those were things forced on them by white European oppressors and christianity. Is it still a thing within their communities? Yes. But the author seems to just assume wholesale everyone is transphobic and homophobic. Two spirit people exist and are celebrated. Trans people exist and are celebrated.
