The Borden Murders: Lizzie Borden and the Trial of the Century by Sarah Miller
dark
mysterious
sad
medium-paced
3.5
Trigger warnings: murder, death of a parent, graphic descriptions of wounds, blood, xenophobia, vomit, sexism
A very informative and impartial look at the Borden case. It focuses very much on the events and the trial rather than the sensationalism or beliefs that have filtered through the decades. It doesn't paint Lizzie Borden as innocent but neither does it villainise her. It's very much just a "here are the facts" kind of a story, and I appreciated that.
But at the same time, there were - perhaps understandably, given that it's a historical case and the focus has always been on Lizzie - that the victims kind of...got lost. And I understand why, but it's also not the way I prefer my true crime.
