The Sprite and the Gardener by Joe Whitt, Rii Abrego
5.0

The Sprite and the Gardener follows Wisteria, an (adorable) sprite, who wishes she could be like her ancestors and use her magical talents to help take care of gardens and nature which is also referred to as life.

Firstly the art style and the colours are amazingly beautiful and detailed; every page is so skilfully drawn it mesmerizingly draws you into the, cutest sprite, Wisteria's magical journey. The original sketches at the end are incredibly fun and interesting to look at and offer an insight to the original stages behind the final design. I just love the aesthetic of the story and how the drawings match perfectly with the colours seemingly to bring the characters to life.
Secondly the storyline, although only short, is complexly detailed and fleshes out a wonderful story which manages to incorporate important morals about friendship, family and remembering history. I also love the optimism throughout the story, the sprites may lose their original purpose but adapt and continue to live happy lives. This makes this a reread for any day or time, especially if you need a pick-me-up. I can't recommend this enough.
