Cryptonomicon
by Neal Stephenson
The past storylines are really what makes it worth reading. I found the internal narrative of Shaftoe and Lawrence highly amusing, and while his segments are a smaller portion of the story, Goto Dengo's story was pretty suspenseful. I found the modern day plotline significantly less interesting - I just didn't enjoy the characters that much other than whenever Douglas M. Shaftoe is involved, and it ends with the whole thing sort of unresolved. Overall an entertaining historical fiction book worth reading, with a modern day storyline that was decent enough to keep me reading.
