It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover

3.5

I put off reading this for the longest time because it tends to be used as a punchline- I agree that the diehard CoHo tik tok fans can be annoying, as any fan that only interacts with one author would be, but they have good reason! This is a really beautiful & harrowing story.

I have a couple thoughts about some things (Atlas’ reaction to Lily in the window and the savior complex it seemed to give her, for example), but overall I felt like this book depicted a very accurate, albeit very sad, abusive relationship. There were a couple very silly things about this book, ahem Ellen, but they made for characters that felt realistic and a very sweet story.

I have only read one other Colleen Hoover, Verity, which is obviously totally different- but her writing really does just draw you in!

All that to say, this is NOT a romance novel- I’m frustrated that it’s promoted as one and I wish I had read this back when it came out, my opinions would’ve been less affected by others.
