Another backlist #BookTok recommendation - historical fiction set in 1940s Seattle exploring the internment of Japanese Americans at Camp Harmony (Puyallup Fair) and highlighting Seattle Jazz through the eyes of a young Chinese man, Henry Lee.
Growing up in Texas, this period of American history is one that I had never heard of until meeting my now husband back in 2003. For him, this was the history that he grew up with - knowing that the State Fair grounds had been the site of this injustice. Now having lived in the South Puget Sound region for a couple of years, and visited the fair grounds more than once, I was both intrigued and trepidatious.
This book was worth the time to read, after a series of ho-hum titles recently, this one was a joy to read - despite the heartbreaking injustice at its core.
