The Truth About Love and Dukes by Laura Lee Guhrke

5.0

Dukes seem to be everywhere in historical romance as romantic ideals but this was one of the few books that tried to take seriously the issue of a duke being bound by his position and responsibilities. I liked that Henry was cash poor since his money would have been tied up in land and funds. I liked that he had such a strong sense of duty to his family and their welfare and I liked that Irene sent him topsy turvy without really changing those things about him that made him a duke.

The suffrage question was handled well in the story too as it was an issue in that time period and also seen as ridiculous by many men because of the threat to the social order.

I loved Irene’s fierce intelligence and her integrity. She and Henry definitely sparked. Will be reading more in this series for sure.
