Dreaming in Cuban by Cristina García

4.0

Absolutely gorgeous writing that truly felt like being in a dream, the characters' voices popped off the page and I loved reading about their relationships with each other, and with the places they lived in.

On the other hand, I did want to hear more about some other characters, like Javier, or Herminia, some shocking details I feel like got dropped and then were never elaborated on (like all the sexual assault scenes, any mention of racism like when Zaida kept her mother locked away), I wish the author had taken more care with those scenes.
