How to Win at College: Simple Rules for Success from Star Students by Cal Newport

3.0

I wish that I could have read this book sooner, at least during my four-year university time.

After reading the books "Deep work" and "Digital Minimalism', I did collect some great lessons, which pushed me to read another book from Cal Newport.

In short, this book is short, succinct, and truly practical. This book offers 75 study hacks, and I have applied 63 of them! I would recommend this book to anyone who will enter college and endeavor to achieve success. Here are some really wonderful tips that I could share with you (and it truly helps me):
1. Create a Sunday ritual
2. Create a study system + Quiz-n-call method
3. Work on a Grand Project
4. Spend time taking an exchange program
5. Seek out phenomenon learners.

However, there are 5 points that I do not totally agree with the author:
1. Never Nap
2. Don't study in your room (As a minimalist, I would like to study in my personally designed room)
3. Don't study in a group (As a team leader, sometimes teamwork does not work. But sometimes it turned out to be wonderful. I mean, it quite depends).
4. Don't get a normal job (I found that quite controversial)
5. Don't network

Besides, if Cal Newport has second thoughts about releasing a new version of his book, here are 3 new approaches that I think gonna help him out:

1 - Putting the book's content into 3 stages: Pre-study, During-study, Post-study.
2 - Diving the book into 2 sections: Work/Study - Life
3 - Include more about productivity tips/study methods/memorization methods/...
