This novel was the first Brontë novel I had ever read, and it was certainly interesting. Although a bit slow and plodding at the beginning, the plot becomes more engaging as soon as Helen's lengthy diary excerpt begins. The slow burn of a toxic relationship (and then marriage) was infuriating to read from an outsider's perspective, but the ending is certainly a reward for the reader.
Glad to see that the high-society protagonist became rich on her own accord and then married her cute farmer boyfriend, something that is rare for these Victorian English novels
