The Dinner by Herman Koch

4.0

Um, whoa. I finished the book thirty minutes ago, and I'm still feeling queasy. I was told that it was hailed as the European Gone Girl, so I thought I'd give it a try. I can definitely understand how they made the correlation, but it was far enough off that it didn't need to be connected.

How far would parents go to cover up a crime committed by their only son? Well, the answer is pretty far. I don't think you're supposed to enjoy any of the characters, but the main family scares me. Scares me a lot.

Interestingly, I did like how the book was set up. The whole book happens over the course of a dinner at a fancy restaurant, so they have the book split up by meal courses. It almost made it feel like a play, and I enjoyed how it made the book flow.

Still, though. That ending...
