This book was very well written, with many cultural jokes, black music references, black TV and movie references, etc. I just absolutely hated the dynamic between the main characters Kaliya and Danny for about 96% of the book. I actually kind of hated that
by the end of the book, I actually was rooting for them to work out, but it did seem like Danny finally got his shit together and was going to go public about his love for Kaliya and not keep lying to himself and everyone else about it. Buttt that never actually came to fruition when it mattered, so who knows really? I just thought Kaliya's blanket acceptance of all the wrongs Danny did her throughout the book and still loving him and wanting to be with him time after time after time was exhausting and not the kind of message I want to read in a black romance. I want to see more stories of strong black female characters who know their worth and don't continually accept disrespect and poor treatment throughout their stories.
I also thought the author was leading up to something
shady having happened between Neha and Danny but that also never came to fruition, which made Neha being so pro-Danny despite knowing what he'd done to Kaliya a bit weirder.
