The Snowman
by Jo Nesbø
I'm developing a fascination for Norwegian crime novels. This was my first Harry Hole and I'm in love. A serial murderer is on the loose, nicknamed "The Snowman" because he erects snowmen in the victims' yards. Very eerie, the snowman was facing the house, with the victim's pink scarf around it's neck (if snowmen had necks...) It's all very serious and dark and twisted. The characters have LOTS of issues (not just the murderer). Well-told story, and even though it's #8 in the series, I felt like I really got great insight into Hole's character (brilliant police inspector).
