Dammit! This book made me cry on the subway. Not ugly cry (though I'd forgive you if you did), but real tears and some sniffling. The story follows Connor O'Malley, a boy who is dealing with his mother's cancer, school bullies, and an absent father. One dark night, a monster appears at his window... and what happens next is a love story to stories and a deeply poignant, funny, and creepy coming of age story about life and death.
