Best Supporting Actor by Joanna Chambers, Sally Malcolm
5.0
Tag is a struggling actor on the edge of his big break. Jay is from a famous family and stars in his own show. They hate each other because they see only the surface, but even then their attraction is brewing.
They give in and have a meaningful night together, then, out of fear, argue and hurl hurtful words at each other. Then, they’re cast in a play and must work together for two months.
For Jay, he’s facing his stage fright, but also, memories of how his emotionally abusive ex treated him, on and off stage. For Tag, its a risk that he quits his job and moves for, so he can barely make enough to feed himself.
They work together with great supportive people, and uncover each other’s truths, hurts, and needs. When Jay’s fear makes him walk out on the show the day before opening night, Tag argues with him, then realizes he doesn’t care about the play, only that Jay is OK.
Jay realizes he trusts Tag, on stage and off, and that plus a good talk with his Mom, help him face his fear and do the play.
I love the building of this relationship and complexity of the characters, both of whom have their vulnerabilities. I also loved Henry, Freddie, and Phil. An excellent book.
I received this ARC for free, and am glad to provide my honest review as a thank you.
