I have mixed feelings about this one. I loved the fast-paced, plot-driven narrative. Some
of the action scenes left my jaw on the ground, and Buddy Lee as a minor comic relief had me laughing out loud from time to time.
The parts I kind of had trouble with was the LGBTQIA+ talk that occurred throughout. It felt somewhat juvenile to me… (I mean, is it necessary to explain what an ally is, in laypersons terms, in this day and age?)
Don’t get me wrong, it was a solid read, but some of the writing felt unfledged to me. Perhaps it was written in a manner that would most accurately reflect the small town feel of the story, but the character development offered as the story unfolded would suggest more meaningful insights were possible for our protagonists.
I also was not a fan of how the women in this book were written. Although well intentioned, this book is definitely male-driven (with the action scenes to boot!)
