The Girl in The Tower by Katherine Arden

5.0

I need the sequel NOW.

Seriously though: beautifully written, wonderfully complex, historically rich. There's nothing I didn't adore about this book (aside from the fact that it had to come to an end). Arden's historical knowledge merges seamlessly with the fairytale and folklore elements. And as with the last book, I especially love her characters, who are messy and conflicted and real. Vasya was wonderful as ever--exactly the kind of heroine I want to write. I was also glad to see the return of Sasha in this one. He's my favorite warrior-priest.

A marvelous follow-up to The Bear and the Nightingale and overall an enthralling tale.
